Allan Lash Shackelford

SHACKELFORD, ALLAN LASH Age 65, died on Monday, August 26 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, MI, from complications associated with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. Allan was born on October 28, 1947 in New Martinsville, WV to Pauline and Jesse Shackelford. He attended Murphy High School in Atlanta, GA. He obtained a B.A. in History from Emory University and a JD from the University of Georgia School of Law. He was a Captain in the United States Air Force, serving as a JAG attorney at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida. As a management labor and employment attorney and consultant, Allan advised institutions of higher education and employers for more than 30 years. He successfully defended employment litigation claims in state or federal courts in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, New York, Michigan, Maryland and Kentucky. Allan was a presenter at more than 250 conferences, seminars or workshops. In recent years, he authored The Student Affairs Handbook: Translating Legal Principles into Effective Policies (with his wife, Anne Lundquist), conducted webinars and live conference presentations for Academic Impressions and wrote quarterly columns for the Jossey-Bass/Wiley publications Disability Compliance for Higher Education and Campus Legal Advisor. Allan is survived by his wife, Anne E. Lundquist of Kalamazoo, MI; and his children, Amy Shackelford of Deerfield Beach, FL and David Shackelford of Jacksonville, NC. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 12 at 4 PM at Parkview Hills Clubhouse with a buffet dinner and sharing of memories to follow.
