Alvin Vander Ploeg, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and dedicated Marine Corps veteran, peacefully passed away on October 10, 2023, at the age of 91.
Born on November 16, 1931, Alvin lived a life filled with love, devotion, and service to his country and community. He is survived by his loving children, Renae (Rick) Levett and Bernie (Lori) Vander Ploeg, who were a source of immense pride and joy in his life. His legacy continues through his four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories of their beloved grandfather.
Alvin was also a cherished brother to Judy (David) Oglesbee and Duane (Darlene) Vander Ploeg, providing unwavering support and a lifelong bond with his siblings.
Alvin served in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service, Alvin spent 30 years working at UpJohn Pharmaceuticals.
Alvin is preceded in passing by his beloved wife, Bernardine, his parents, six sisters, and seven brothers. His reunion with them in the afterlife marks the end of a life filled with love, laughter, and enduring family bonds.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, an organization that provides compassionate end-of-life care. Alvin's family is grateful for the care and support provided by the hospice team during his final days.
Alvin will be laid to rest with his wife at South Martin Cemetery during a private committal service.
