Andrew Charles Hetrick, or Andy as he preferred to be called, came into this world on March 16, 1966, the youngest child of Donald and Rosalie (Verburg) Hetrick. Andy was the sixth child for the couple, and he had a lot of keeping up to do with five older siblings. As a child, he was known for his big, bright blue eyes, blonde hair, and sweet and often times mischievous spirit.
Andy married his high school sweetheart in June of 1984, and they went on to welcome four children of their own: Jessica (Chuck) Eyster of Vicksburg, Joseph (Brittany) Hetrick of Schoolcraft, Timothy (Katrina) Hetrick of Schoolcraft, and Maria (Andrew) Brandt of Portage. Andy loved being outside, in his younger years he played softball after work on adult leagues, and eventually moved into throwing horseshoes. You could also find him tinkering on his 1965 Pontiac GTO or loving on one of his beloved dogs, while just truly enjoying being out in nature. Andy would also tell you that he was most proud of his four children, there was nothing he loved more than being a dad, he wasn’t perfect at it, but his children were his greatest accomplishment.
In the final years of his life, Andy unfortunately battled many health issues that drove down his quality of life. He ultimately went home to be with the Lord and to finally be pain-free on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Andy leaves behind so many people who loved him; his parents, siblings (and their spouses/families), many nieces and nephews who he adored, his four children (and their spouses), and eleven amazing grandchildren, who called him “Bampa”; Madeline, Tristan, Bryce, Drew, Jackson, Audrey, Kennedy, Charlotte, Sawyer, Layla, and Olivia.
The family wishes in order to honor his memory that a donation be made to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (information on how to do so can be found on their website niaaa.nih.org), or to Rose Arbor Hospice.
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
