Anna Geraldean Katje went to be with the Lord, on March 13, 2021, in Grandville, MI. Ann was born August 16, 1932 in Martin, MI, the daughter of Garry and Bessie Katje. She was the second oldest of 11 Katje children. The Katjes had a farm in East Martin. There was always plenty to do raising chickens, dairy cows, and doing chores.
Ann was a lifelong member of the East Martin Christian Reformed Church. She attended the East Martin Christian School through 8th grade and then attended Martin High School and graduated in 1950.
After graduation she went to work for the Sutherland Paper Company in Kalamazoo, MI for almost 42 years. Over these years the company had six name changes. She retired in 1992 from James River – Carton Division.
Ann was known for her special gifts of crocheting afghans for wedding gifts and blankets for new babies. She also enjoyed baking and cooking. She was known for her homemade pizza. She enjoyed shopping trips with her sisters. Ann was a loving person. She was always there to help out her family. She was the glue to keep us together.
She was preceded in death by her parents Garry and Bessie (VanderPloeg) Katje, sister Betty, brothers Chester, Fred, and John, brother-in-law Lester Knot. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters: Emily Katje, Dorothy Katje, (Rev. Steve) Joyce Sytsma, Joan Knot, and brothers: James (Lila) Katje, Robert (Ruth) Katje, sister-in-laws: Marilyn Katje, and Jeanine Katje, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Those who would like to give memorial gifts can give to the East Martin Christian School or the East Martin Christian Reformed Church.
Services will be held at East Martin Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Derek Noorman and Pastor Steve Sytsma officiating at 2 PM, Wednesday, March 17, 2021 with a time of visiting from 1-2 PM.
