Anne Ritchie

With sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of Anne Barbara (Paral) Ritchie of Kalamazoo, MI, who departed from this world on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. Anne was born on August 24, 1924, in Cicero, Illinois, to loving parents Thomas and Anna (Moravec) Paral. In 1930, her family made the heartfelt journey to Michigan, where Anne would leave an indelible mark on the lives of those around her.

On April 22, 1946, Anne exchanged vows with Berkley Ritchie, embarking on a journey of love and companionship that spanned decades. Throughout her life, Anne dedicated herself to her family and her community. Her commitment and hard work were evident in her tenure at Sears, where she served faithfully until her retirement in 1986.

Anne's spiritual journey was a cornerstone of her life. She found solace and fellowship as a longtime member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Portage, MI. Though declining health eventually prevented her from attending, her faith remained unwavering.

Anne had a passion for creativity, finding joy in quilting and various crafts. Her skilled hands wove together threads of love and artistry, leaving behind cherished pieces that will serve as enduring reminders of her talent and devotion.

Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband Berkley in 2008, her son in 2002, her parents, and her sisters Helen Jochem, Lillian Laskey, and Mildred Addleman. Though they have gone before her, their memories continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved them.

Anne leaves behind a legacy of love and family. She is survived by her children: Lynn (Dan) VanSweden, Dennis (Lisa) Ritchie; daughter-in-law Melinda Ritchie; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Anne's impact on their lives is immeasurable, and her memory will forever be cherished.

In honoring Anne's life, let us celebrate the love, laughter, and warmth she brought into our lives. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us always. Rest in peace, dear Anne, knowing that you are loved beyond measure and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing you.

In accordance with the family’s wishes a private committal service has been held and she has been laid to rest with her husband at Mt. Ever Rest Memorial Gardens in Kalamazoo, MI.
