Barbara V. Abrams
Barbara V. Abrams, age 86, of Marcellus passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the home of her son Andrew of Marcellus.
She was born May 30, 1928 in Kalamazoo. She was the only child of Glen and Eva (Uchida) Van Valkenberg.
She lived most of her life in Marcellus. Following graduation from Marcellus High School in 1946, she moved to Kalamazoo to attend college and work. She is a graduate of Western Michigan University.
Barbara was united in marriage to Harry H. Abrams in 1950 (divorced in 1988). They moved back to Marcellus in 1953 after the death of her mother, and went into busi-ness with her father at Van’s Radio & TV Shop
During her years in Marcellus, she taught in the Marcellus Community Schools, served on the Village Council as Clerk and Trustee, on the Chamber of Commerce as secretary, and as a Director of the Hudson Memorial Building Board. She was a member of the Home Arts Club, DIRRC Book Group and the Kalamazoo Dunes Orchid Society.
Barbara wrote a weekly column for the Marcellus News for many years based on living on Main Street.
Her religious affiliations were with the Marcellus and Wakelee United Methodist Churches.
Surviving are two sons, Andrew S. (Sally) Abrams of Marcellus, Jeffrey H. (Julia) Abrams of New Mexico; five grandchildren Stephen and David Abrams; Eric, Dane and Tessa Grashuis.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 in the Mater-Ralston Funeral Home, Marcellus.
Memorial services will held at 2:00 p.m., April 3, 2015 at the Wakelee United Methodist Church, Dutch Settlement Road, Mar-cellus.
