Barbara P. Davenport

DAVENPORT, Barbara Price Portage Passed away Feb. 16, 2012 at Morning Glory House. She was born June 23, 1923 in Portage, Mi the daughter of Carl A. and Maude (Tyler) Price who preceded him in death and step daughter of Blanche (Kiltz) Price. She lived much of her life in the Kalamazoo - Portage area and was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central and Kalamazoo College. She was a stewardess with Pan American World Airways and married a Pan Am pilot; James A. Davenport. After the birth of their daughter, Nancy he found he was missing a lot of family life and became a professor at WMU. They traveled in most of the US, Canada, Latin America and the UK which aided her in teaching geography in Portage Central Middle School. She retired in 1985 and became involved in volunteer work. Barb was preceded in death by her husband (1993), a daughter, Peggy (1983) Sands and her brother, Donald A. Price (1996). She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (John) Crowell of Mattawan; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place ant there will be no visitation or services. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Greater Kalamazoo.
