Bernard Wheatley, SR 10/25/1919 - 04/19/2015
Bernard James Wheatley Sr passed away peacefully on April 19th 2015 at home with family and within sight of his beloved Big Lake.
Bernard was a lifelong resident of Allegan County, a Corporal in the Army Air Core during WWII. He married Esther Hayes the day before Thanksgiving 1946 and they were married for 68 years. He was a member of the Allegan FOE #2315 for 64 years. After he retired from North American Rockwell in 1975 he was an active member of the Martin Lyons.
Bernard loved the outdoors and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and watching the wildlife out his window at Big Lake. He will be deeply missed by friends, family and neighbors; he was very special to so many.
Bernard was preceded in death by his father James, mother Anna Setter and sisters Bernice Wheatley and Dorothy (Ernie) Connor.
He is survived by his wife Esther, his son Bernie Jr (Sharon) and daughter Linda (Steve) Zoromsky, his grandchildren: Jaymie Retherford, Virginia (Jeremy Standow, Mary (Matt) Blanchard, Ann (Toby) Moenke, Drew (Lydia) Zoromsky and his great grandchildren: Arika and Kristen Retherford; Camilla, Logan, Trinity and Elia Blanchard; JAS Standow.
There will be a memorial mass at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church May 13th 10:30am and grave side services May 13th, 3:00pm at the Blessed Heart section (back part) of Oakwood Cemetery, Allegan. There will be a light luncheon served immediately flowing by Allegan Eagles 2315 located at 110 Chestnut St., Allegan.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Grace Hospice or to kidney research at UM Department of Internal Medicine Development Office. Addresses for both will be at the service.
