Betty Kuiper

Betty L. (Bloopy) Kuiper, of Portage, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 3, 2022, at the age of 88. Betty was born on January 24, 1933, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was the daughter of Melvin and Elva (Schuyler) Wright. Betty is survived by her children, Rev. Deb (Patrick) Yurk, Bob (Linda) Kuiper, Scott (Ann) Kuiper, and Pam (John) Mattison-Kramer; grandchildren, Dr. Brian (Michelle) Yurk, Bobbie Kuiper, Rev. Kevin (Rachel) Yurk, Stephen (Ashley) Yurk, Sally Silveira (Raj Warpehoski), Nora (Candace Rowell) Kuiper, Ben Kuiper (Rachel Glass), Meghan (Matt) Johnson, Emily (David) VanDeraa, Jenna Mattison, Michael Mattison, and Mallory Mattison; honorary daughter, Joni Stimson and granddaughter Hannah Stimson; 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nancy Wright; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert Kuiper; her parents; siblings, Donald (Carol) Wright, Harold Wright, and Carole (Bill) Gelbaugh. Betty was a long-time employee of the Upjohn Company in the payroll/shareholders records department. Betty was a long-time member of Trinity Reformed Church. Betty loved playing cards, camping especially in Pentwater, spending time with her family, knitting, and gardening. Betty was very proud of her family and loved spending time with each and every one of them. Betty was a special friend, aunt, grandma, and mom. Betty’s loving and nurturing presence will certainly be missed. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Centrica Care Navigators – Rose Arbor. Visitation will be at First Reformed Church of Portage, 7905 S. Westnedge, Portage, MI 49002 at 10:30 am on Friday, January 7, 2022, with service to follow at 12:00 pm at the same location and lunch immediately following.
