Brian L. Parker of Portage passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025 at the age of 56. Brian was born on November 7, 1968 in St. Louis, MO. Brian lived a life filled with love, unwavering faith, and a commitment to making his community a better place.
He graduated from Wichita Southeast High School with the Class of 1987, where he discovered a love for tennis and golf. He furthered his academic pursuits with a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University, laying the foundation for his future successes and fostering lifelong friendships.
Brian dedicated his career to serving others as a project manager for West Michigan Interiors, skillfully managing substantial accounts across Southwest Michigan. His work ethic and passion for building relationships shone brightly, particularly through his involvement with Southwest Michigan First, where he forged connections that cultivated lasting partnerships.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Brian’s heart found its true purpose in being a devoted family man. He was immensely proud of the life he built alongside his beloved wife, Julie Edwards, whom he married on July 10, 1993, at Calvary Bible Church. Together, they nurtured a home filled with laughter and love for their three sons, ensuring that family always remained at the center of their lives.
Brian’s commitment to his community extended beyond his career; he was a pillar of support in local youth sports. He generously shared his time and knowledge, coaching in both the Portage South Little League and Westwood Little Leagues as his sons were growing up. He also served on the board for Portage Central Football.
Those who knew Brian often spoke of his remarkable personality—quickwitted, selfless, patient, and confident, he was also a gentle spirit and humble, qualities that endeared him to many. Around the house, he was the grill guy. And if you walked into the living room he most likely was watching tennis on television.
His profound faith guided Brian’s life. He actively participated in the churches he attended, serving as a deacon for Calvary Bible Church and later as an elder for Lake Center Bible. His commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of others included teaching Sunday School for middle school-aged boys at Lake Center, where his warmth and compassion helped shape young lives.
As we remember Brian L. Parker, let us carry forth the legacy of love, kindness, and dedication that he embodied. While his presence will be profoundly missed, the memories he created and the lives he touched will forever remain in our hearts. Our thoughts are with his family as they navigate this devastating loss, and we honor the beautiful life he led—one that reminded us of the importance of faith, family, and service to others.
Brian is survived by his wife of 31 years, Julie; three sons: Stephen Parker of Battle Creek; Jonathan Parker, of Portage; and Nicholas Parker, of Marquette. He is also survived by his parents: Gerald and Judith Parker, of IN and his two brothers.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at The Bridge, 7200 Angling Road, Portage, on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 11 am. He will be buried at Portage South Cemetery.
