Carl Gosta Honell of Portage, age 82, passed away peacefully on May 17th, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sallie, their children Tom (Joe), Amy (Norm), Tim, his grandchildren Jamie (Samantha), Julie (Kelly), and great-grandchildren Arya and Paxson. He is preceded in death by his brother Leaf and daughter Julie.
Carl was born in Harmanger Sweden on September 25th, 1933. He moved to the United States when he was 17 years. Soon after he met the love of his life, Sallie, when she ran him off the road with her car to get his attention. Carl joined the Army from 1952-1955 as a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division as a Paratrooper and Photographer. Sallie and Carl got married when he got out of the Army the same week he started his career at ARCO as a computer Programmer. He retired from ARCO in 1999 and delivered car parts for another 10 years to keep him busy.
Carl loved kids, sports, and animals. He coached his son's little league, never missed his grandchildren's hockey games, and was an avid K-Wings fan. He was known to go hunting most of his life but never shot an animal and was often seen rehabilitating sick ones back to health. He was a selfless person who would give you the last dime in his pocket. He battled numerous bouts of Cancer and heart problems but never missed a beat or his daily donut with his son Tim. He was passionate about the outdoors and often went for long walks and even longer drives through the countryside where Sallie would count horses to pass the time. He knew the answers to all the crossword puzzles and was a history buff. Carl was a great friend, and even more amazing father, husband, and grandfather. Donations should be made to the American Cancer Society. A Memorial gathering will be announced at a later date.
