Carl Thomas Myers passed away on May 23rd, 2016. He was born on January 21st, 1949 to his loving parents Marjorie Ellen and Arthur James Myers in Kalamazoo, MI. He is survived by his wife Sherry A. Myers, Daughter Lisa M. Prey & her husband Joseph D. Prey, Son James T. Myers & his wife Natasha Myers, Granddaughter Ashley A. Berghuis, Grandson Dakota R. Berghuis & his fiancé Elaina Thompson, Father Arthur J. Myers & his special friend Etta Moore, Younger brother William Myers & his significant other Mary Myers, Younger sister Nancy J. Harmer & her husband Doug Harmer, Niece Angela Henry-Delapaz (a special thank you for all you helped with from the beginning) & her husband Robert, Honorary brother Dutch Slager, Good friend Rosey, and the rest of his nieces and nephews.
All who knew Carl would agree that he was a one of a kind man. He was loved by all who were lucky enough to meet him. He is remembered for his endless jokes, devotion to his family, and the ability to see good in all situations. He had a heart of gold.
As a young man, Carl was eager for all that life had in store. He joined the army from 1969 - 1970, where he served the year risking his life for this beautiful country in Vietnam. Six years later Carl married the love his life, Sherry, on December 31st, 1976 --- 4 months after they met working at Borgess Hospital. It only took roughly 20 times for Carl to ask Sherry out, before she finally said yes (after having to shave his afro off first!) That 4 months ended up turning into over 39 happy years. Carl was an avid softball player, bowler, and golfer. He was a devoted Detroit Lions fan even through their many terrible years, and had a huge love for hockey. He spent many years going to K-wings every weekend with his daughter Lisa, and then with his granddaughter Ashley. He loved the K-wings enough to take in players of the Jr. K-wings as a billet dad for the two years they were a team. Carl had such devotion to his family that he quit his job at JB Packerland after 28 years to stay home and take care of his wife back when she was very ill.
Carl Thomas Myers will be forever loved and forever missed by all.
A special thank you to the Adult Medical Unit at Bronson Hospital for taking such great care of Carl during his stay, and to everyone at South West Michigan Hospice for everything they did to help during this most difficult time.
