Newton, Carl Allan 11/5/1947 - 4/24/2018 Galesburg Age 70. Carl died peacefully on Tuesday, April 24th at Rose Arbor Hospice. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI to Roger and Lenna Leora Newton. He graduated from Galesburg-Augusta high school in 1966, Central Michigan University in 1970 and then later graduated from ITT Tech. In April of 1971, he married Vickie Ellen Dankert in Jackson MI. They recently celebrated 47 years of marriage. Together they had 2 daughters: Lori-Marie and Lisa. As a teen, he earned his Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts organization. Carl was a firefighter for 40 years, 37 of those being in Galesburg. He served as Mayor of Galesburg for nearly 4 years. He remodeled the family home and enjoyed fishing, being out on a lake and spending time with his family. Carl was dedicated to the firefighters with whom he served and valued the opportunities to give back to the community. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law. He is survived by his wife, his daughters, Lori-Marie (Jonathan) Boyer, Lisa (Don) Koop; grandchildren Anna and Jonah Boyer and Silas and Wesley Koop. The family wishes to thank his brother Gary (Char) for their kind support in his final days. There will be a memorial service on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM. Both will take place at the Galesburg United Methodist Church. 111 W. Battle Creek St, Galesburg, MI 49053. Family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to Galesburg DDA for the creation of basketball courts behind city hall and in Ike Payne Park, PO Box 294; Galesburg Charleston Fire Department, or Galesburg United Methodist Church.
