Charlene Joyce (Haynes) Eaton, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on August 28, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on October 30, 1937, she was the fourth of nine children to Catherine and Charles Haynes, who owned a cherished furniture store in Marcellus.
Charlene's life was marked by a deep love for family, community, and the simple joys that brought her happiness. She first met her husband, Joel Eaton, in 1953, and after rekindling their relationship in 1957, they married on March 21, 1958. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Charlene was the proud mother of three children: Diana (Paul) Shingledecker, Mark (Stacey) Eaton, and Lorrie Eaton. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she provided loving care to neighborhood children through her home daycare for over 25 years. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Her legacy continues through her six grandchildren: Jamie, Lucas (Patricia), Cassandra, Jacob (Hazel), Timothy, and Patrick; her 11 great-grandchildren: Natasha (DJ), Vanessa, Jacob, McKenzi, Joseph, Autumn, David, Cindy, Mason, Ava, and Brody; and her great-great-grandchild, Adrian. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents and her devoted husband, Joel.
Charlene had a deep appreciation for the beauty of life. She loved traveling, playing card games, and doing puzzles. She found joy in visiting local greenhouses, where her love for plants blossomed. A lifelong hummingbird watcher, Charlene cherished the vibrant energy these small creatures brought to her days. She was known for her generosity, often passing along homegrown plant roots to the next generation, sharing both her love of gardening and her wisdom.
A committal service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 by the family at Vicksburg Cemetery, where Charlene will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Centrica Care Navigators, honoring Charlene's giving spirit and her commitment to the well-being of others.
Charlene's gentle soul and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
