Christopher Jaden deCastro, 18, passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2024. Chris was a passionate little boy who was full of energy, and he loved to make people laugh. He was active in Cub Scouts as a young child and was a talented athlete, playing soccer and running cross country. As he grew older, his interests shifted, and he became interested in music and theatre and was a part of many productions at Portage Central High School.
Last year, Chris began to show interest in a possible career in dentistry and became actively involved with Health Occupations Students of America. Chris had many friends from all over the community, including friends at PCHS, his job at Culvers and those he met through the Career and Technical Education program. When asked, his friends describe him as funny, up for anything, empathetic, and always kind to others.
Chris loved to travel. In addition to visiting many states throughout the U.S., he participated in mission trips to Uganda on two occasions. He also loved animals and was persistent in his desire for a dog, lobbying for 8 years until he wore his parents down and Bella joined the family. In true Chris fashion, he also recently brought home a ball python without telling anyone. He gave him a home in his closet for 5 months before it was discovered. Chris’ light, energy, and love was contagious, and he will be greatly missed.
Chris is survived by his parents, Ariel and Heather, his siblings, Nicholas and Alia, as well as his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Their love and support meant the world to him, and he cherished his family deeply.
