Claire A. Zieman
Claire A. Zieman, age 79, of Three Rivers, MI passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014. She lived at Bowman House Assisted Living in Three Rivers, MI. She was originally from Chicago, IL and a long time Marcellus resident.
Claire graduated from South Chicago Community Hospital (now Trinity) School of Nursing in 1956. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from St. Xavier College in 1962 and a Master’s of Science degree in anatomy and education from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in 1965.
Claire began her nursing career in 1956 as a staff nurse at South Chicago Hospital. She went on to being an educator there and other institutions. In the 1970’s Claire began teaching and working at schools and hospitals in southwest Michigan, including Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She spoke at many symposiums, workshops and influenced hundreds of nursing students. Hospice nursing was her final passion. She was also a devoted Catholic who taught CCD and Bible study at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Three Rivers.
Claire is survived by one brother, Robert (Phyllis) Zieman of Darien, IL; many nieces and nephews and special friends Rose & Bob Piekarczyk of Marcellus. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday, June 9, 2014 in the Mater-Ralston Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:30 P.M.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Three Rivers MI.
