Clara Pearson passed away with family by her side on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Clara was born October 2, 1925 in Vandalia, Michigan to Fred and Nina Marie (Smeltzer) Newman. Clara graduated from Kalamazoo Central in 1943. She married her husband Jack on September 21, 1946. Jack passed away on June 11, 2004.
Clara enjoyed going to the casino with her friends and playing Bingo. She bowled for years, traveling with her bowling team and later in life she picked up golf. She was a fan of all sports, especially the Detroit Tigers. At home, you could find her in her flower garden, and she was happy to host holidays at her home. She also entertained friends and family at the family cottage on Pine Lake.
Surviving Clara is her loving family including her children: John (Kathy) Pearson, Steve Pearson, Patti Brown, Matt (Karen) Pearson, Joan Wallace, Janine (Greg) Marr, Dan (Becky) Pearson and her daughter-in-law Reva. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Jack; her son Paul; her sisters Ardith and Mary and her son-in-law Tom.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visit with family and friends on Tuesday, October 15 from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Home; 120 S. Woodhams St. in Plainwell, 269 685-5881. A Rosary will be held at 6:30. A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 16 at 11:00 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church; 766 S Farmer St. in Otsego. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to may donate to St. Vincent de Paul Ministry or Transitions Hospice of Kalamazoo.
