Craig Leon Sanborn

Craig Leon Sanborn of Portage, MI passed away on November 18, 2021, at the age of 77. He was born on July 7, 1944, in Lansing, MI. Craig was loved and cherished by all; he was a hard worker that truly enjoyed life. He was a renaissance man that was always sharp dressed, well-spoken, and well-versed in many subjects. He was a graduate of East Grand Rapids High School, he studied at Ferris State University and Michigan State University, and later was an instructor for the Acme Institute. Sports gave him such enjoyment and he was an avid Michigan State University alumni and fan, he would often say “I bleed green”. He was a proud MSU football season ticket holder for over forty years and could always be found tailgating with Sandi and his best friends: Ron and Paula Vanderlaan on game day. Now Ron, Paula, and Craig are celebrating every MSU touchdown together in Heaven Another passion was cars… fast Corvettes specifically. Through high school and college, he managed to drive various models of corvettes and would drive to Grand Haven and back in record time. Throughout their twenty-four years of marriage Craig and Sandi loved to travel together. One of their favorite things to do for vacation was flying down to Orlando, Florida to visit his brother, Larry Sanborn, and his family. Sandi and her adoring husband would spend summer getaways in Traverse City, on the bay. Craig held membership in Grand Rapids Association of Realtors (GRAR) for more than 45 years until his retirement. He had a very successful real estate career, helped countless clients achieve the dream of homeownership, and was a friend to many within - the GRAR community. He was named GRAR REALTOR of the year (as a salesperson) in 1979, attained his broker’s license in 1997 and was always so generous with his volunteer time and energy. He served on GRAR’s Education Committee, the Professional Standards Committee, and the Board of Directors. He is preceded in death by his parents Mack and Martha Sanborn, and brothers Howard Sanborn and Larry Sanborn. Left to cherish his loving memory is his beloved wife: Sandi; children: Tara (Todd) Clark, Craig Sanborn Jr., Amanda (David) Bell; and Emilie (Matt) Musialczyk; very proud grandpa to grandchildren: Bella Clark; Ava, Zoe, and Gia Bell; Owen and Zander Musialczyk; and brother: Al (Karen) Sanborn. His many friends and family are grateful for the time spent with him. He will be dearly, dearly missed. In accordance with the family’s wishes cremation has taken place and a service will be held on a later date.
