Daniel H. Wubben, Sr., of Shelbyville, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 6, 2023. Dan was born on March 27, 1941, to Harry and Dena (Grussing) Wubben. He was a 1959 graduate from Central Minnesota Christian High School. He attended Dordt College in Iowa for a year before he enlisted in the Air Force. He served his country for four years as an Air Policeman before being honorably discharged. In 1965 he was stationed in Alaska and started writing Gerda whom he met through a friend. After six months, he came home and met Gerda in person for the first time. They were married 6 months later. Together they made a home in Grandville and later moved to Pratt Lake in Shelbyville.
Dan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gerda; his children: Dan (Michelle) Wubben, Donald (Julie) Wubben and Dean Wubben; his siblings: Marlene (Bill) Vos, Al Wubben, Edith Wubben, Grace (Edward) Engel, Mary Fischer and John (Cindy Severin) Wubben; ten grandchildren: Bethany (Chris) DeVos, Rebekah (Levi) Middlemiss, James Wubben, Hannah Wubben, Leah Wubben, Alexandria (Eric) Zudweg, April (Matthew) Modreske, Jenna Wubben, Jonah Wubben and Kate Wubben; five great grandchildren and one on the way: Lydia, Liliana, Sophia, Malachi and Obadiah.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kenneth.
Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very good at puzzles and read western novels, but most of the time you could find him outdoors. He was a crane operator for over 20 years until he retired in 2007. In his retirement he enjoyed working on mission trips helping after natural disasters all over the United States.
Visit with family and friends on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the East Martin Christian Reformed Church; 1782 5th St. Martin, MI 49070. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Memorial gifts can be made in memory of Dan to World Renew, envelopes will be available at the church.
