David Lynn Johnson, age 69, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away on Friday, November 30th, 2012 at Borgess Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on January 28th, 1943 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Dale and Betty (Miller) Johnson. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1961. He moved to Marshall, Michigan in the early 70's, where he was married to Carolyn Green. Together they had two daughters. While residing in Marshall, David was actively involved as a volunteer fireman for the Marshall Fire Department, and enjoyed coaching and playing recreation softball, for teams such as Cornwell's Turkey Farm and Marshall Cold Storage. David then moved back to the Kalamazoo area in 1981. He retired from his parents' business, Marshall Cold Storage, in 1992.
His hobbies included spending time with his family at Gull Lake, as well as hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, NASCAR, and trips to the casinos.
David is survived by his wife, Linda, of 31 years. His two daughters, Kimberly (Carey) McMichael of Katy, Texas and Heather (Jack) Hadley of Springport, Michigan. Stepson, James Centilla of Portage, Michigan. Stepdaughter, Elizabeth (Centilla) Fillar of Portage, Michigan. Three grandchildren, Iain and Noah McMichael of Katy, Texas, and Allison Centilla of Portage, Michigan. One brother, Randy Johnson of Richland, Michigan. Nephew, Ryan (Martina) Johnson of Hickory Corners, Michigan, and several cousins and close friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Kiley Johnson.
At his request, cremation has already taken place. There will be an open house to celebrate his life on Sunday, December 9th, 2012 from 1-4 p.m. at Weatherstone Village club house, 5210 Marsh Arbor Trail, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49004.
