David “Dave” G. Musselman, 67, of Schoolcraft, Michigan, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died peacefully at his residence on March 28, 2024. David was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on January 17, 1957, the son of Robert G. Musselman and Marilyn J.(Schipper) Musselman. He and his family moved to Portage, Michigan in the early 1960's. He was preceded in death by his parents, of Portage, Michigan, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph A. and Jeanne L. (Sapian) Miller, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a brother-in-law, Mark R. Miller, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dave is survived by his wife, Laura “Laurie" (Miller) Musselman, 3 children; David Joseph (Lyndsie Post) Musselman of Hudsonville, Michigan,, Kristin Laura (Mitchell Harrison) Musselman of Sparta, Michigan, and Juliet Alexis ( Brock) Sweeter of Lawton, Michigan, 2 grandchildren; Aliza V. Sweeter and Penelope L. Musselman, his sister; Mary Ann (Robert) McKenzie of Kalamazoo, MI., and 1 brother; Robert James (Sharon) Musselman of Scotts, Mi., 2 sisters-in-law; Kathleen "Kate" J. (Stephen) Smerbeck of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania., Jeanine "Gigi" B. (Donnie) Plummer, of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, 1 brother-in-Law; Vincenzo "Vin" J. Miller, of Paw Paw, MI. Two nieces, Bridgette N. Stroup of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Angela M. Musselman of Kalamazoo, Michigan, 1 nephew, Ryan J. Gage of Ionia, Michigan, 1 step nephew, Robert McKenzie of Grand Rapids MI, 1 step niece, Jennifer Shuemake, of Kalamazoo, MI., 5 great nephews, 3 great nieces, 2 great great nephews, several aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins.
Dave graduated from Portage Northern High School in 1975. He worked as a caddy at Kalamazoo Country club in high school and developed a lifelong love for golf. He had a golf membership at Old Mille Golf Club. Dave began working at General Motors in 1976. He attended Western Michigan University to earn his Journeyman's license in machine repair. Dave went on to attend additional advanced machinery classes at Western Michigan University to earn an additional Journeyman's license in Vibrational Machine Analysis He was assigned to a GM plant in Grand Rapids, where he worked until he retired.
Dave married Laura "Laurie” H. Miller on September 22, 1979 and they enjoyed 45 years of marriage. Dave earned recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records, with his wife, Laurie. This article sums it up: KALAMAZOO, Mich. - With 1,201 couples all together renewing their vows on the Grand Lawn near Heritage Hall Oct. 8, Western Michigan University. This set a new Guinness World Record for the most marriage vow renewals in one place at one time on Oct 8, 2016. That record has yet to be broken.
Dave was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and ice fishing with his family and friends on the lakes. Dave golfed in leagues and with friends and family, He played on various adult softball teams, he played on volleyball teams, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, riding his ATV 3 wheeler with friends, working on and maintaining the acreage and gardens on his family farm, swimming in his pool with family and friends, playing tennis, cards, especially Euchre, traveling with his wife and friends, watching football, especially the Detroit Lions football team and the Detroit Tigers baseball team. Dave always watched sports, whatever was in season. He played all sports with great passion and was an excellent athlete.
Dave loved his children, grandchildren, friends and family. He loved watching his children and his grandchildren's sports games, recitals and band concerts. He coached some of his children's sports teams and enjoyed teaching sports and ethics to his children and grandchildren. Services and a celebration of life will be held at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, 9300 XY Avenue West, Prairie Ronde Township, Schoolcraft, 49097.on Saturday, April 20th at 2:00.
