David Alan Norberg, of Portage, MI passed away March 7, 2014 at home, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. David was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Bernice (Lohman) Norberg, and a brother, James Lee Norberg. David is survived by his wife, Virginia Hughes Norberg, daughters, Rachel Garcia of Texas Township MI, Carrie Girolami of Lawton MI, and Anne Norberg of Kalamazoo MI; step-sons Brian (Stacy) King of Henderson NV, and Kevin King of Las Vegas NV; grandchildren, Andrea, Andrew, and Amaya Garcia, and Alexis Girolami; step-grandchildren, Justin and Jake King; two sisters, June (Wayne) Kamp, and Denise (Craig) Studeman, both of Muskegon, MI; several nieces and nephews.
Dave earned an associates degree in Applied Science from Muskegon Community College, and then graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree. During his career, he worked as a mechanical engineer for several large West Michigan companies including SPX in Muskegon, Herman Miller in Zeeland, and Howmet in Whitehall. While at Herman Miller, he was part of a team that travelled to Thailand for over a year, investigating the feasibility of establishing a manufacturing site to service the emerging Asian office furniture market. For the past ten years, Dave expanded his own business, Blue Water Design, doing consumer product installations through Lowe's. He delighted customers with his technical understanding of plumbing and electrical installations, and his excellent customer service skills. Dave received many accolades from customers, and was awarded Lowe's District Installer of the Quarter Award.
Services for Dave will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 am at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1206 Whitehall Rd, Muskegon, MI 49445. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Please consider a memorial contribution to Heartland Hospice of Kalamazoo, 8075 Creekside Drive, Portage, MI 49024.
Internment will take place at Bradyville Cemetery, Trinity Lutheran Church, Bradyville, MI at a private family ceremony.
