Dave Schronce

David Allan Schronce of Kalamazoo, Michigan passed away suddenly on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the age of 70. He was born on March 30, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan to Bob and Joyce Schronce (Wick).

Dave grew up in Northville, Michigan with his brother Michael and sisters Nancy and Carla. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 wonderful years, Teri; his daughter, Meagan; his son, Kevin and daughter-in-law, Natalie; his adored grandson Emile Allan; his brother, Michael; his sister, Nancy (Jeff) Marsh; his sister, Carla (Matt) McIntosh; his many nieces and nephews; and his trusting companion Sable. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Since childhood, Dave had a profound love for the outdoors. He spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, driving back roads, and enjoying the water on his boat. Many of his fondest memories were from traveling to northern Michigan with his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Dave spent many years at family cabins up north. When he and Teri purchased their own cabin, it was a dream come true. It became a haven where he made lasting friendships and spent countless hours surrounded by nature’s beauty. Watching his golden retriever, Sable, walk along the riverbanks and lay contentedly in the water brought him endless delight.

Throughout Dave’s life, no pursuit was more worthwhile than enjoying the company of his family and friends at home. Visits in the garage, dinners cooked on the grill, games filled with laughter, Western movies, and even summer pool parties highlighted his days. After retiring, Dave used his extra time to travel to visit family and to make annual summer trips to Lac La Belle to enjoy the fresh water and air of the Keweenaw. Visits with his daughter were always a joy and often involved scoping-out the best place to get a banana split. Although his time with his grandson Emile was short, it was very meaningful.

Dave valued his family, hard work, humility, and laughter. He was a proud United Steel Workers (USW) local Union President and a highly skilled tradesman. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in fishing, the quiet of nature, and spending time outside. He was a dedicated fan of University of Michigan football and the Detroit Lions and Tigers. He was a kind and measured man of few words who lived life on his own terms. His quick wit, thoughtful nature, and love of playful pranks will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends who were fortunate enough to know him. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Michigan United Conservation Clubs in Dave’s memory, honoring his love for the outdoors and preserving it for generations to come.

A memorial service will be held at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Home, 120 South Woodhams Street, Plainwell, MI 49080, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, with a time for visiting beginning at 12:00 p.m. noon until the time of service at 1:00 p.m.
