Dean Barrett Crawford, a beloved husband, father, brother, and caring individual, passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2023, after bravely battling health issues for over a year. Dean was born on November 20, 1958, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to his loving parents Dick and Shirley Crawford.
Dean grew up in Vicksburg and graduated from Vicksburg High School with the Class of 1978. Dean's military service came in his 30’s. He served in the Army Reserves and graduated at the top of his class, a testament to his dedication and discipline. He often joked that he told all of the other people in his group to not let the old guy out work them.
Afterward he initially worked for a couple of years at Durametallic Corp., which is now known as Flowserve. He then took on the role of maintenance person at Lemon Park, a property owned by his parents on Indian Lake.
A man of many talents and interests, Dean found great joy in working with cars. He possessed an innate ability to fix cars with ease and precision. His passion for automobiles led him to participate in the Old Car Show held in Vicksburg each year. He cherished these moments as an opportunity to connect with fellow car enthusiasts and residents of Vicksburg.
Dean's love for adventure extended beyond cars. He was an avid canoeist who fearlessly navigated challenging spots such as the Pine River alongside his dear companion Vivian. They proudly never flipped their canoe on any of their adventures. Their journeys together with friends created cherished memories that will be treasured forever.
One particularly notable project that Dean undertook was working on an M-60 Army tank alongside his nephew Eric. As a result of their collaboration, the M-60 tank now stands proudly at the entrance of Brady Township Hall in Vicksburg when approaching from the east.
Another passion that filled Dean's life was attending Nascar races at Michigan International Speedway. He would take his renovated school bus and stay for the weekend. Because of his friendly attitude, he often made friends at these races and even had someone notice him when he went to a race in Daytona.
Described as a handyman, patient, compassionate, calm, kind, gentle, and always reliable, Dean touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm heart and genuine personality endeared him to all who crossed his path. Dean's integrity was unquestionable; he was a man of his word whose actions spoke louder than words.
Dean's proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly the joy he derived from helping his family and friends with anything they needed. He selflessly dedicated his time and energy to extend a helping hand whenever it was required. The impact he had on those around him is immeasurable, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness and compassion.
Dean Crawford, an extraordinary individual who touched the lives of many, will forever be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering commitment, and genuine nature. His legacy will continue to inspire acts of compassion and selflessness. May his soul find eternal peace as we collectively mourn his passing and celebrate a life well-lived.
