Obituary – Dennis W. Hands Jr.
January 16, 1972 – December 6, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Dennis W. Hands Jr., on December 6, 2024, in Lake Forest, California. Dennis was 52 years old and is survived by his beloved wife, Kristen Hands, and their two children, Capriana and Carter Hands, all of whom reside in Southern California.
Dennis was born on January 16, 1972, in Jackson, Michigan, to Susan and Dennis Hands. He is also survived by his mother, Susan Jojola; his twin brother, Darrin Hands; his younger brother, Scott Hands; as well as four nephews and seven nieces. His father, Dennis Hands, preceded him in death.
Dennis’ life was marked by an unwavering love for his family, his passions, and his work. His family was at the center of his world, and he cherished every moment with them. Dennis’ second great love was hockey, a sport he embraced at an early age. A talented goalie, Dennis wore the number 27 while playing at Lumen Christi High School in Jackson, MI. He continued his hockey career at the University of Michigan-Dearborn before transferring to the University of Arizona, where he played for the Ice Cats and proudly wore the number 32.
In California, Dennis met his soulmate, Kristen, during a visit to see his mother. They fell in love, and together, they built a life and a family in Southern California. Over the years, they lived in Rancho Santa Margarita, Corona, and ultimately settled in Temecula, where they raised their children.
Dennis found joy not only in hockey but in coaching. He dedicated his time to coaching at various organizations across Southern California, including Santa Margarita Catholic High School, San Diego State University, and the Jr. Gulls in San Diego. His love for the game extended to his own son, Carter, whom he coached on and off the ice.
A man of many talents, Dennis also discovered a deep passion for farming and gardening. He established a small vineyard, Vigneto Celeste, in Temecula, where he produced his first Pinot Grigio, San Genovese wines, and Limoncello. His interest in farming was matched by his love for golf, where he shared countless hours on the course with his daughter, Capriana, a student-athlete at Temecula Valley High School.
Dennis’ enthusiasm for life extended beyond hobbies and family. He was a die-hard fan of the Detroit Lions and Detroit Red Wings, always holding a special place in his heart for Michigan. An avid golfer and fitness enthusiast, Dennis participated in CrossFit, Peloton groups, Spartan races, and was a proud member of the weekly running group, The Honey Badgers.
Dennis was also a seasoned entrepreneur, founding and growing multiple businesses over the years. His work ethic was unparalleled, and he treated everyone with kindness and respect. His signature phrase, "We’ll figure it out," became a mantra for those who worked with him, reflecting his optimism and problem-solving nature. Dennis was a master at building relationships, and his friends spanned the globe. He had a unique ability to stay connected with people, often reaching out to friends and acquaintances when visiting a new city. Whether friend or stranger, Dennis was always ready to lend a hand or offer support.
In his later years, Dennis developed a deep love for travel, especially to the Philippines, China, and Italy. He was captivated by the cultures he encountered and the food he tasted. His appreciation for Italian culture was so profound that he was honored as an "honorary Italian," a title he wore proudly.
Above all, Dennis' connection to his wife, Kristen, was the foundation of his life. They were a team, partners in every sense of the word. Together, they weathered life’s challenges with grace and resilience, always leaning on each other in times of need. Their bond was a testament to the power of love, and Dennis was a devoted husband and father.
Dennis’ relationship with his family was equally strong. He maintained a close-knit connection with his mother and brothers, frequently calling to check in and never missing an opportunity to reunite with them. His love and commitment to his children, Capriana and Carter, were profound. Dennis instilled in them the values of hard work, kindness, loyalty, and dedication. He led by example, showing them what it meant to love unconditionally and live with integrity.
Dennis’ passing leaves a void that will never be filled, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He was a unique soul, a true friend, and a beloved family member. Dennis was a rare and special person—truly one-of-a-kind. His energy, generosity, and love will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Dennis W. Hands Jr. Your legacy of love, strength, and dedication will continue to inspire us all.
