Dennis “Denny” VanWeelden came to this world in 1954. He is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 46 years, Pam “Drenth” VanWeelden. Their son, Jeremy, will miss them both greatly.
Denny is survived by his loving parents - Wayne and Bea VanWeelden - who will remember him as a loving and helpful son. Additionally, his sister and brother-in-law - Cindy and Brad Boven, sister Linda Moed, and seven nieces and nephews.
Denny was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. Growing up in Parchment, he was active in multiple sports. For many years, he played on several church softball leagues. He loved the water, boating, fishing, and skiing. Relaxing on the beach was a must during any family vacation! He enjoyed weightlifting and bodybuilding with his wife and many friends; a hobby he took part in until his passing.
Dennis loved to socialize - hanging with his buddy Steve Williams, chatting with neighbors that grew to be family, or just making conversation with an acquaintance. He had a heart of gold and an amazing laugh.
Dennis was retired from Lawton Middle School. For over 20 years, he taught science, math and physical education; he also coached many of the girls' sports teams. Teaching and counseling his students were something Denny was very passionate about.
The treasures Denny held dearest to his heart were his family, close friends and neighbors. Spending his time with Pam - whether at the beach, their lake home, or just at the local gym - would bring out his warm smile that could light up the darkest room. His son was the apple of his eye; Denny loved doing anything and everything with Jeremy! Most recently, big lake boating and fishing filled their weekends. Nothing made him happier than supporting their interests and creating fun memories to cherish. Dennis was a wonderful father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He left a lasting impression on many and he will be missed immensely.
