Diana L. Brandt

Diana L. Brandt, of Portage passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the age of 79. Diana was born on July 18, 1943 in Kalamazoo. She was the daughter of William and Hazel (Pierson) Hiscock. She attended Mattawan schools and graduated from Mattawan High School with the Class of 1961. While at Mattawan, she was a member of the marching band playing the clarinet. After high school she married Charles Brandt. Together they had four children and were married for over 20 years prior to divorcing. Her career started by working as a bank teller before taking some time as a stay-at-home mom while her children were young. As their youngest child began to go to school, Diana went to work for AT&T, where she worked for over 30 years until her retirement. Diana loved to travel to spend time with family, among her trips were to Washington State, Las Vegas, and Florida, along with several trips to South Dakota.  Her hobbies included: bowling, shopping, bingo, crocheting, reading, ceramics, and golfing. She made sure to remind everyone that she once shot a hole-in-one at the Red Arrow Golf Course. She was a great cook and loved to bake, especially at Christmas time. Her family will remember her as devoted to her family, having a great sense of humor, and loved being a grandma.

Diana is survived by her three children: Victoria “Vikkie” (Charles “Andy”) Schmitz, of Galesburg; Michael (Becky) Brandt, of Kalamazoo; Melissa (Joseph) Houseman, of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren: Zachary Brandt, Bailey Brandt, Connor Schmitz, Zachary (Caitlin) Houseman, and Jacqueline Houseman; four great grandchildren: Jaxson, Emily Rose, Nolan, and A.J. She is also survived by three siblings: Linda (Gary) Gouin, of WA; Karen Blanke, of Kalamazoo; and Dennis (Cathy) Hiscock, of IL and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her son: Jeffrey Brandt, brother Tommy Hiscock, and her parents: William and Hazel Hiscock.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 9^th from 4 to 7pm at Avink, McCowen & Secord Funeral Homes, 5975 Lovers Lane, Portage. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 10^th at 11am at the funeral home.
