Don W. Nantz is survived by his son, Philip, daughter-in-law, Judith, and grandsons, Adam and Eric (Helen), and great grandson, Darren. He served in the Navy aboard a submarine in the Pacific during World War II. He was a Life Member of the Elks Lodge in Kalamazoo, and a member of Kiwannis for many years. Dr. Nantz enjoyed traveling to many countries with his wife, Ethel, and was an avid golfer.
During his years at Western Michigan University, Dr. Nantz served as Assistant Dean, Director of Admissions and Chairman for Applied Sciences Council in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He joined the faculty at WMU in 1952 and retired 1984 with the title Dean Emeritus of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Nantz developed several degree programs at WMU and supervised two Michigan Department of Education projects to improve the transferability of occupational community college credits to the university. Dr. Nantz earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He earned an Ed. D. degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.
