Donald Dean Dekam of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the age of 67. He was born on May 15th, 1957, in Kalamazoo, MI, to Richard and Modesta (Holton) Dekam.

On December 2nd, 1994, Don married the love of his life, Renae Smith, who was completely out of his league. Together they built a beautiful life filled with cherished memories and unwavering devotion.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, Richard and Modesta Dekam.

He is survived by his wife, Renae Dekam; his son Geoffrey Parker and wife Amber Parker, his daughter Amber Esman and husband John Esman, his daughter Samantha; his grandchildren Lily and Willow.

Don was an avid snowmobiler, tinker-er and outdoorsman. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was tinkering around in the garage, cutting wood, or taking long walks in the woods. His favorite retreat was snowmobiling on any of the numerous trails across Michigan, where he made countless memories surrounded by the beauty of the wilderness.

Above all, Don’s greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren. He treasured every moment spent with them, reading books, playing outside, laughing, taking Lily on tractor rides, and being bossed around by them.

A devoted husband, father, and PaPa, Don’s legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

In accordance with the family’s wishes cremation has taken place and Don’s ashes will be spread in a private ceremony by the family in the places he loved the most. The family will be hosting an open house bonfire to gather with friends and family and everyone else who’s life was positively impacted by Don. It will be held at 5391 Old Douglas Road in Kalamazoo, MI 49009 on Saturday, April 12th at 4:00pm to 10:00pm.
