Donald Eugene Paradine of Schoolcraft, MI went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the age of 92. He was born on October 6, 1931, in Detroit, MI the son of Walter and Wreta (Dolbee) Paradine.
Don proudly served his country as a United States Marine. Enlisting in 1951, he demonstrated exceptional bravery and dedication throughout his service during the Korean War. Stationed in various challenging environments, Don's commitment to his comrades and his country never wavered. His courage under fire earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow Marines. In 1954, he was honorably discharged, having served his nation with unwavering valor.
On January 8, 1955, Don was united in marriage to Patricia VanDerWeele at the Vicksburg United Methodist Church. Together, they raised three wonderful children in Schoolcraft, MI.
Don was a hardworking man, owning and operating the Shell Station in Schoolcraft from 1958 to 1965, providing full-service gas and oil changes. He then dedicated 26 years as the Service Manager at Krum Hallam Chevy in Vicksburg, retiring in 1993 at the age of 61. In his retirement, he found joy in mowing the grounds at Pine View Golf Course for thirteen years.
Don's free time was filled with golfing, traveling, reading, and cherishing moments with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After retiring, Don and Pat enjoyed eight wonderful years in Citrus Springs, FL, before returning to Schoolcraft in 2003.
A man of deep faith and unwavering devotion, Don, along with Pat, was a cornerstone of the Schoolcraft United Methodist Church. Their dedication to their church community was evident in their long-time leadership of youth groups, where they mentored and guided countless young individuals, instilling in them the values of faith, kindness, and service. In 1972, Don and Pat founded the Kids of Christ Youth Choir, a vibrant and joyful ministry that brought together young voices to celebrate their faith through music. Their tireless efforts and genuine love for the children of their congregation left an indelible mark, creating a legacy of love and faith that will endure for generations.
He is preceded in passing by his wife of sixty-seven years: Patricia; his parents; and siblings: Leo, Mary, Shirley, Frances, Barbara, Ruth, Phyllis, and Linda.
Left to cherish his loving memory are his children: Kevin (Amy) Paradine, Charlie (Teresa) Paradine, Julia (Richard) Paradine-Rice, and beloved exchange student: Anja Nijenkamp; grandchildren: Shauna (Jeff), Tiffany (Spencer), Ethan (Abby), Tee, Trevor (Jane), and Anthony (Allison); great-grandchildren: Soren, Sean, Mina Patricia, and Katherine; honorary daughter: Karen Adams; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In accordance with Don's wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at the Schoolcraft United Methodist Church, 342 North Grand Street, Schoolcraft, MI 49087 on Saturday, August 10, 2024, with a time for visiting beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Marty Cobb officiating. Don will be laid to rest with Patricia at Schoolcraft Cemetery following the service. A time of food and fellowship will be held following the committal.
Memorials made in Don's memory may be directed to the Schoolcraft Eagles Nest and the Schoolcraft United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the service.
