Doris Jordan, of Plainwell, MI. was called Home by Our Heavenly Father, Thursday eve, July 12, 2012, at age 87. She had courageously battled various bouts of cancer over the past several years, but succumbed to the most-recent bout. She attended State High School and graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1942. She had studied voice & music and appeared as the lead female character in several Gilbert & Sullivan operettas in the Kalamazoo area while in high school. She was an avid roller skater and performed many roller-skating demonstrations in various local roller rinks and in U.S.O. Shows at Fort Custer Military Base in Battle Creek, where she met her future husband. She attended The Juilliard School of Music in New York. Doris married Wilbur Jordan and they had 5 children. She was stricken with Polio in 1950 and valiantly, through her perseverance, overcame many of the obstacles of that illness over the next 2 decades.
Doris was an avid fan & supporter of various Sweet Adeline choruses & quartets over the past 26 years,
and hundreds of Sweet Adelines around the world called her "Mom". She is survived by her three youngest children, John (& Holly) Jordan of Kalamazoo, MI.; Merry Lu Jordan & Carolyn Jordan, both of Plainwell, MI. Waiting for her in Heaven were her parents, her husband, and her two eldest sons, DeWitt Jordan & Gary Jordan. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of a funeral service there will be a Celebration of Life Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Gun Plain Twp. Hall, 381 8th St., Plainwell, MI., with visitation from 2:00-2:30 p.m., Celebration of Home-going at 2:30 p.m., then Celebration of Life until 5:00 p.m. Coffee, punch, & cake will be served.
