Doris Irene Melville, age 93 of Marcellus passed away Monday, October 7, 2019.
Doris was born on December 14, 1924 to her parents, Henry and Olga Monty in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
On November 12, 1945, Doris married William John Melville, in St. Joseph, Michigan. She and John moved to Marcellus, where they purchased a hotel on Big Fish Lake, along with Stub and Lucille Melville. They grew their business into what was known as Melville’s Tavern in Marcellus. As well as the bar and restaurant, the brothers started a construction company. They also owned fruit farms in Keeler, Michigan.
Doris is survived by her four children, Steven (Joke’) Melville of Florida, James (Donna) Melville, Jerry (Shelley) Melville, and Sheila (Paul) Boshoven, all of Marcellus. Seven grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Andrew, Amanda, Melissa and Carrie Melville and Bryan (Brittny) Boshoven, and nine great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Millie, Alec, Jade, Ethan Melville, Preston, Maliyaha, Severen Boshoven and Coralyne Richards. She also leaves behind her beloved cats and dogs.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband John, two grandsons, Christopher and Shane Boshoven, her brother Doug and sister Phyllis.
Per her request, she wanted no funeral or service after her cremation. In lieu of flowers, etc., it was her wish to have donations in her memory made to any No Kill Animal Shelter of your choice. Her pets were a big part of her life and she adopted any stray that entered her life. We will have lots of smiles from heaven when she sees that animals will continue to be rescued and she has contributed to their safety and wellbeing.
Even though she did not want any type of memorial service, some family members feel the need to be joined by family and friends to help them find the closure they need. A "Family and Friends Gathering" will be held on Sunday, October 20th, at the Marcellus VFW, from 1-4 pm. Please join us for an afternoon of renewed friendship, good conversation and the making of more memories.
She is now free of pain and suffering and has entered the Kingdom of God. May she rest in peace.
