Doris Isabelle Steele

Doris Steele (Grandma Doe) of Plainwell, MI, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo MI. Doris was born November 22, 1926, in Kalamazoo MI to Horace & Stella (Austin) Kirkland. She is survived by her children: Melvin (Luanne) Valkner, Chuck (Donna) Valkner, Rich (Leslie) Valkner; her stepchildren: Chris, Jeff, Della, Rhonda and Angie; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews; Doris is proceeded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond Valkner and her second husband Clyde Steele; her twin sister Dorothy Porter; her sons: Jack Valkner and Donald Valkner. Doris was the glue that held her family together. She was a very caring and thoughtful person with a strong faith in God. Her kindness was unlike any other. Doris was the second oldest kayaker on Mackinaw Island. She liked to travel with Hawaii a favorite spot. She would sew, crochet and gardening in her younger years. A a visitation will be held on Monday, November 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the McCowen & Secord funeral home; Marshall & Gren Chapel in Plainwell. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the same location. Memorial Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
