Dorothy Brown

Former Marcellus area resident Dorothy R. Brown passed away on December 23, 2019 at the age of 95 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Dorothy was born on December 19, 1924 and lived in the Marcellus area from early childhood until her retirement when she moved to Kalamazoo. She eventually relocated to Portage, where she lived independently until her final few days. She may be remembered for some of the many volunteer positions she held locally: on the Board of Trustees for Southwestern Michigan College; the Marcellus village council; the Marcellus Library as well as being a member of the Marcellus United Methodist church. In retirement she continued to serve for many years as a volunteer Senior Companion in the Kalamazoo-Portage area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll J. Brown and her eldest son Reed D. Brown. Her survivors include daughter Ruth Ann Jones (Nevin) of Los Angeles; son Gary L. Brown (Joanne) of Portage, and her grandchildren Tyler (Lynneea), Stuart, and Melina; great granddaughters Adalyn and Emelia; her sister Evelyn Gyllstrom of Marcellus, and her extended family of nephews and nieces who will all miss her greatly.
