Dorothy Ferguson

Dorothy Louise (Meyer) Ferguson passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 19, 2024, in Kalamazoo, MI. Born on January 25, 1926, on a farm outside of Chicago, IL, she was the beloved daughter of Henry and Mabel Meyer. When she was very young the family moved to Montague, Michigan where her father's family lived. There she was raised on their family farm.

In 1946, Dorothy married the love of her life, Harold Ferguson, with whom she shared a beautiful journey of love and devotion. Together, they raised three wonderful children: James, Robert, and Rhonda. Dorothy dedicated many years to serving the community as a school bus driver for Portage Public Schools, where she was known for her kindness and dedication.

A long-time member of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Portage, MI, Dorothy’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was deeply involved in the church community and cherished the friendships she built there. Dorothy’s greatest joy was her family. She poured her love and wisdom into the lives of her grandchildren, creating lasting memories that they will treasure forever.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Harold in 2009, her dear children James and Robert Ferguson, son-in-law: Gary Comfort; her loving parents, and her siblings. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, cherished by her surviving family members: her devoted daughter Rhonda (Richard) Garthe; daughter-in-law: Drusilla Ferguson; her adored grandchildren Kim, Sean, Micheala, Tiffany, and Chad; her precious great-grandchildren Trevor, Michael, Luna, Leo, Celeste, and Cameron; along with many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy’s warm heart, unwavering faith, and loving spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

In accordance with the family’s wishes a private committal service has been held and Dorothy has been laid to rest with her late husband at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South.
