Dorothy Louise (Penn) Haugard, age 84, of Haslett (formerly of Lawrence, MI) died September 26, 2011 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Dorothy was born in Detroit on April 14, 1927. She was a graduate of Cooley High School, Michigan State University and Western Michigan University. Dorothy taught reading in the Hartford and Bloomingdale school districts and completed her working career as the librarian of the Lawrence Branch of the Van Buren District Libraries.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Henning Haugard in 2004; by her parents J. George and F. Alona Penn; and by her sisters Alice Kurth, Marion Stow and Mary Beth Cook. Surviving her are five children: David (Kim) Haugaard, Mark Haugard, Eric Haugaard, Kristine Haugaard and Kurt Haugard; two grandchildren, Nathan (Blair) Haugaard and Jessica (Joshua) Cox; and four great-grandchildren, Tiller and Rivers Haugaard and Jalen and Sierra Cox.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hartford United Methodist Church on October 16, 2011 at 1 pm, with a meal to follow. Dorothy joined the HUMC in 1956 and was a member of the choir and United Methodist Women. Memorials may be made to the Hartford United Methodist Church, 425 East Main Street, Hartford, MI 49057.
