Kauffman, Douglas D 2/17/1932 - 9/22/2015 Portage, Michigan Doug "Douger" Kauffman died peacefully at his Portage home on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the age of 83. Douger is survived by his wife of 51 years Linda (Reed) Kauffman; sons William (Lori) of Elkhart, Indiana, Rob of Livonia, Michigan, and David (Shana) of Baltimore, Maryland; five grandchildren Ashley, Jerod, Kara, Keegan and Julia; Brother-in-law's Lyle, Cal and LeRoy and Sister-in-law's Norma, Leona, Wendy and Ruth. He was preceded in death by his compassionate son, Jeff; his sister (Betty) and brother (Ralph); his brother-in-law's Kenny and Wilbur and sister-in-law Kay. Douger was born on February 17, 1932 in Elkhart, Indiana to Michael and Dorothy. He graduated from Elkhart High School in 1948. He received an Associate's Degree from Detroit College of Business. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Japan as a cryptographer. After several years working at the family lumber yard, he met his perfect match. Douger adored his wife Linda for their 51 years of marriage. Doug co-owned Kauffman Lumber in Schoolcraft, Michigan for the majority of his life. He loved his wife, his kids, grandkids, and his Cubs! Douger leaves behind a legacy of kindness. He believed and practiced unparalleled patience. People could not help but be drawn to his quiet, playful disposition. The family is having a visitation on Friday, September 25 from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Avink Funeral Home, 129 S. Grand in Schoolcraft, Michigan 49087. The funeral will be on Saturday, September 26 at 11:00 AM at the Schoolcraft United Methodist Church, 342 N. Grand in Schoolcraft, Michigan 49087.
