OBITUARY OF EDWIN G. AUSTIN

Edwin G. Austin (“Ed”), age 55, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, made his transition from this life on Saturday, July 20, 2019. Ed was born on February 22, 1964, to Edwin R. and Mary J. (Carney) Austin. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Daniel B. Austin; his father Edwin R. Austin; and his mother Mary J. (Carney) Austin. Ed is survived by his sister, Roberta L. Austin (Mark Steckbeck) of Indianapolis, IN; his brother Jerry R. Austin of Three Rivers, MI; his niece Tara P. Lamons of North Charleston, SC; and his many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ed’s greatest joy in life was being a loving and devoted father to his son Daniel, whose life tragically ended at the age of 14. Ed had deep compassion and love for companion animals, especially kitties, and was known to provide affection, food, comfort and shelter to neglected and homeless companion animals over the course of his life.

The family expresses its deep gratitude to the following professionals for their compassionate care, support, and commitment to Ed’s well-being, and had a such a positive impact on his quality of life during his final years: the entire staff at InterAct of Michigan, Inc., Kalamazoo, MI, especially Marissa Cooney, Andy Dineen, Barbara Hutchins, Laura Chesbro, Mal Horein, and Kris Norris; Ed’s caregiver, Cleveland Gikurri, Skybridge Adult Foster Care, Kalamazoo, MI; and Ed’s former caregivers, Kathy Sanders and Penny Johnson, Serenity Place, Three Rivers, MI.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Wakelee United Methodist Church, 15921 Dutch Settlement Road, Marcellus, Michigan, on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. There will be a time for fellowship and a light lunch following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a humane society or another animal welfare agency in your area in memory of Ed.
