Elisabeth Miller, born in Bremerhaven Germany on April 28, 1926, passed away in Kalamazoo, MI on April 1, 2024 at the age of 97. She led a remarkable life filled with love, compassion, and dedication.
Elisabeth's journey began during World War II in Germany. Despite the challenging times, she managed to complete her education equivalent to high school in the United States. Her resilience and strength of character paved the way for a life well-lived. In a twist of fate, Elisabeth met a United States soldier named Richard Miller during World War II, who later became her husband. Their union brought them to Kalamazoo, where they built a family together.
Tragedy struck when Richard passed away unexpectedly due to a work-related accident. Undeterred by this loss, Elisabeth dedicated nearly 20 years of her life to the Upjohn Company along with working at Daane’s as a caterer for several years. Her work ethic and commitment were truly admirable.
Those who knew Elisabeth will fondly remember her as a strong-willed individual with a caring heart and an independent spirit. She was known for her straightforward nature and her role as a beloved grandmother to her grandchildren. In her leisure time, Elisabeth indulged in hobbies such as knitting, sewing, and gardening. Her lawn was always manicured just right. Her culinary skills were also revered among family and friends; she was famous for her pies and crepes.
Elisabeth is survived by her two sons, David and Brian. Although her beloved husband Richard passed away close to 58 years ago, she carried his memory in her heart always. Elisabeth Miller leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and generosity that will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace knowing that she made a profound impact on the lives of those around her.
Elisabeth is survived by her two sons: David (Linda) Miller of Kalamazoo; Brian (Penny) Miller, of Vicksburg; two grandchildren: Taylor Miller, of Vicksburg; and David Jr (Rachelle) Miller, of Paw Paw; one great granddaughter: Kelsey Miller, of Kalamazoo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard.
Elisabeth has been cremated and there are no services scheduled at this time.
