Elizabeth Anne Sehy

As people have responded to Elizabeth’s passing from this life, there are words they have used to appreciate who she was to them. Each person has described Elizabeth’s life in words that can be summed up in scripture passages beginning in Galatians 5:22, “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law”. Verse 25 says “if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit”. These words of scripture are what people are saying of Elizabeth as they express their sorrow in their loss. They have said, “she was always kind, she was always loving, she was non-judgmental, she was a gentle soul, she was fun, she was always making others feel welcome, and she was long suffering (long suffering refers to having self-restraint, does not immediately retaliate). Elizabeth’s life is an example of walking “in the Spirit”. Deeply loved, Elizabeth will be forever missed. Elizabeth Anne Sehy was born May 9, 1988 at Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, Michigan to Henry and Anne (Shekleton) Sehy. She was the youngest of Henry and Anne’s four children. Elizabeth always loved the outdoors even from an early age. One thing she liked was riding four wheelers at home and in Iowa where many Shekleton family members live and she visited often. Playing soccer was a passion either indoor or outdoor. When she was beginning the sport, once the boys found out how talented she was they picked her to play for their team. While attending Vicksburg High School, she played varsity soccer. She once went to head a ball but accidentally head-butted the goalie’s knocking them both to the ground. She took her game seriously. As an adult, Elizabeth continued to play soccer and served as captain of an intramural soccer team at Kingdom Sports Indoor Center in Kalamazoo. She could often be seen at her niece’s and nephew’s soccer games in Vicksburg on her days off. She would drive out of town to watch and cheer others on in different sporting events as well. Elizabeth was close to all of her cousins growing up. She especially loved being with them for Christmas when they would perform the Christmas Story of Jesus birth for the rest of the family. She always spent as much time as possible with her large family on both sides. Throughout her school years, Elizabeth was known as the class clown, and the teachers commented that she loved to talk to anyone and everyone. After graduating in 2006, she went on to receive her certificate in dental hygienics from Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Michigan. Elizabeth considered the day that she became an aunt for the first time the best day of her life, and each time she became “aunt” to another child she felt very honored to be called “Aunt Liz” by each of them. She let her love be known to all of them. Besides spending time with them on her days off, she took every opportunity to shower them with gifts and treats. Every school year she loved buying them new clothes. She was famous for Easter egg hunts throughout her family’s orchard, hiding up to 285 eggs. She loved buying each of the kids Christmas and birthday gifts or whenever she saw something they would have fun with. This spilled over to cousins as well. She loved giving gifts. Elizabeth worked at TJ Maxx for 14 years, which turned out to be an environment that she thrived in. She loved interacting with the customers, and she often brought all kinds of baked treats for her coworkers. Elizabeth also participated in the annual shoe drives for children going back to school and needed new shoes. The shoes were donated and Elizabeth’s favorite part was being at the gymnasium being able to help each individual child to pick out their new shoes. She always spoke highly of her supervisor and coworkers. In her free time, Elizabeth pursued her hobbies. She took several painting classes with friends, and she enjoyed traveling to visit relatives. Elizabeth loved her dog, Buddy, and cat, Misty. Both were a source of comfort and love. She liked writing cards for people and referred to them as her “novels.” Elizabeth was a genuinely sweet young woman, and she was always willing to help others. She believed that everyone was a truly good human being. As family and friends can attest, Elizabeth Anne Sehy truly understood the secret to a life well lived. She was always polite and kind, and she always saw the good in people. Elizabeth was consistently willing to serve her loved ones in ways both great and small without asking for anything in return. She was known to be a gentle and caring soul, and she touched the lives of so many in such a special way. Though she will be deeply missed, Elizabeth leaves behind a priceless legacy that her loved ones will proudly carry on in her memory. Elizabeth is preceded in her passing by her sister: Sarah Sehy and nephew: Lane Sehy. Left to cherish Elizabeth’s loving memory are her parents Henry and Anne (Shekleton) Sehy; siblings: Monica (Scott) Triemstra and Nathan Sehy; nieces and nephews: Reagan, Ian, Calvin, and Ava Triemstra and Colton Sehy; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
