Mr. Elmer Thomas Reisner, 82, of Schoolcraft MI, joined his beloved wife, Janet Kay (McDaniel) Reisner, in heaven on December 23, 2020.
Preceded in death by his wife Janet, parents Paul and Pauline Reisner and his brother Thomas Reisner. Elmer is survived by his children, Thomas (Jane) Reisner and their children, Deborah and Joshua; Kathy (Matthew) Hunt and their children Danielle, Tyzjgi and Tyzzyr; Daniel (Julie) Reisner and their children, Payton and Sam; and sibling Paul Reisner, several nieces, nephews and loved friends.
Elmer was born January 7th in Lansing, MI to Paul and Pauline Reisner. Although never finishing high school, he entered the National Guard and was honorably discharged after nine years of exemplary service.
Elmer married his beloved on September 26, 1959. After living in Eaton Rapids and moving to Portage, Michigan they built a home in Schoolcraft Michigan where they raised their three children: Tom, Kathy and Dan. Elmer was a foreman at Jacklin Steel. After that he drove truck for American Freight and he ended his working career as custodian for Schoolcraft Community Schools.
Elmer was quick to help others, especially those working in missions and through his church. He generously helped relocate many missionaries for Continental Baptist Missions (FKA Hiawatha Baptist Mission). He and his family spent many summers volunteering at Gitche Gumee Bible Camp, where Elmer worked as a cook, in maintenance and anything else that was needed. He was a member at Berean Baptist Church, Portage, M, for over 40 years.
He put his skills to work creating treasures out of wood. His family fondly remembers the hours he spent in his woodshop creating beautiful things.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting all gifts directed to support the future care of Joshua Reisner, Elmer’s autistic grandson.
