Emily Mae Talsma

Emily Talsma, age 75, of Plainwell, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 5, 2020. Emily was born on September 30, 1944 in Grand Rapids, MI. The second of three children, to Norman F. and Emily M. (Walton) Hudson. On February 2, 1962, Emily married the love of her life, Kenneth J. Talsma, who proceeded her in death on Monday, May 4, 2020. Emily took pride in being a housewife and mother. She enjoyed flower gardening and tending her Koi pond, raising chickens, having campfires, and going camping, traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and bird watching. Emily was also an animal lover, giving many pets a loving home over the years including her “special boy”, Spencer, a Jack Russell mix dog, she leaves behind. Emily is survived by her children; Patricia (Harvey) Becker, Jim (Roxanne) Talsma and Jennifer (Cornelius “Corky”) Zuydwegt; seven grandchildren; Nicole Bush, Crystal Beach, Jamie Talsma, Charlie Flanagan III, Makenzy Flanagan, Brea Zuydwegt and C.J. Zuydwegt; One sister, Norma (William “Bill”) Broadhurst, one Brother, Norman “Tom” (Mary) Hudson, three siblings in-law Joyce Ryland, Marilyn (Dale) Lemmer, and Aneda (James) Matteson, and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Ken, Emily is preceded in death by her parents, one sibling in-law Robert (Dorris) Talsma and Son in-law, Richard Sund. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 12 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the McCowen & Secord Funeral Home; Marshal Gren Chapel, 120 S. Woodhams St. in Plainwell. A celebration of life service for both Emily and Kenneth will be held at 1:00 pm at the same location.
