After over 92 years of life, the family of Floyd Virgil Marr announces his passing. Floyd passed away on November 14th, 2024 at his residence in Paw Paw, Michigan. Floyd was born on June 6th, 1932 to parents Boyd John Marr and Hertha Marr (nèe Rodseck).
Among his many accomplishments, Floyd proudly served in the United States Army from November of 1952 to September 1954, and received a Korean Service Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Floyd is survived by his wife Joyce Marr (nèe Gordon). On October 15th 1955, Floyd married Joyce; they loved each other for 70 years, and remained married and in love until Floyd’s passing. From their union, Floyd and Joyce had five children: Deborah Smith, Gregory Marr (deceased) (Beth Marr), Brenda Little (Christopher Little), Marsha Costales (Jorge Costales), and Jeffrey Marr (Anna Marr). Floyd’s family was the pride and joy of his lifetime. His five children lead him to be a grandfather to 12, and a great-grandfather to 30.
Floyd had many hobbies and interests; an outdoorsman, Floyd could be found hunting, fishing, camping, and tending to the lawns and gardens of anyone who needed a hand. A sports fan, Floyd loved any and all games, especially when one of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren competed. Floyd loved his community. As a lifelong Kalamazoo-area resident, he was an active church member, and a regular volunteer at organizations like Pretty Lake camp, Meals-on-Wheels and Sager-Brown UMCOR Depot.
Floyd Marr was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and community member. His absence leaves an empty space in the lives of all who knew him. He touched many lives, and instilled love, loyalty, and honor in the hearts of his family and the people who were a part of his life.
Floyd will be committed in a Military Honor ceremony at Fort Custer National Cemetery on December 2nd at 2:30pm. Please arrive 10-15 minutes ahead of schedule, as the ceremony will be succinct. Any friends who wish to honor Floyd’s life are welcome to join the family at the ceremony.
