Frances “Kay” (Fanning) Riggs of Kalamazoo, MI, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born in Marion, IN, on June 24, 1946, the daughter of Fransco and Maude (Deckman) Fanning.
From an early age, Kay was full of life and determination. She carried with her a strong sense of loyalty and a warm, spirited nature that made her a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Growing up in Indiana, she developed a love for basketball, especially cheering for her beloved Indiana Hoosiers—a passion that lasted a lifetime.
Kay met the love of her life, Rollie Riggs, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and a strong sense of family. She was a devoted mother to her three daughters, Gwen, Cheryl, and Brenda, instilling in them the values of kindness, resilience, and a deep appreciation for family. She found immense joy in watching her family grow, welcoming sons-in-law Charlie and Mike, and later, adoring her granddaughters Meghan, Miranda, Mackenzie, and Hannah. Her greatest pride was in her role as “G-MA!,” cherishing the special moments with her great-grandchildren Kendall, Cason, Wyatt, Graham, Everett, and Elaina.
Beyond her family, Kay had many passions. She found solace and joy on the golf course, where she spent countless hours perfecting her game, sharing laughs, and forging lifelong friendships. A talented card player, she had a competitive spirit and a knack for strategy, making every game night an exciting challenge. Whether at the card table or in the stands rooting for her Hoosiers, Kay lived with enthusiasm and a zest for life.
Kay's warmth, humor, and unwavering support for those she loved will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love and strength will live on through the many lives she touched.
