Fred Joseph Maxa Jr., of Scotts, MI passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the age of 89. He was born in Chicago, IL on January 23, 1933, the son of Fred and Stella (MacKoviacki) Maxa Sr.
He attended Argo High School in Summitt, IL, it was there that he met his future wife and love of his life: Antonette Puchalski. Following graduation Fred honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning home the two were united in holy matrimony on September 13, 1958 in Argo, IL. Together they raised a family in Argo until 1983 when he was transferred to the GM plant in Kalamazoo, MI purchasing eight acres of land and a home in the country. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and a long time member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church.
Left to cherish Fred’s loving memory are his children: Neil Maxa, Kyle (Renee) Maxa, and Clay (Carrie) Maxa; grandchildren: Paige Maxa, Cole Maxa and Alyson Jordan; siblings: Leona Ronczkowski and Phil Maxa; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Fred is preceded in his passing by his wife: Antonette (Puchalski) Maxa; parents; brother-in-law: Ted Ronczkowski; and sister-in-law: Diane Maxa.
In accordance with Fred’s wishes cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held at Avink, McCowen & Secord Vicksburg Chapel, 409 S. Main St., Vicksburg, MI 49097 from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM. Beginning at 6:30 PM Deacon Dave Guido will lead a Rosary service.
The funeral service will take place on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 5855 East W Ave., Vicksburg, MI 49097. For those planning to attend the luncheon please RSVP at fjmaxa2022@gmail.com
Fred will be laid to rest with his wife at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with military honors on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
Memorials made in Fred’s memory may be directed to St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
