Frederick Charles Corbus

Corbus, Fred C. 9/9/1934 - 9/27/2014 Age 80, passed away peacefully at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo on Saturday, September 27, 2014. Fred was born on September 9, 1934, the son of Fletcher and Ellenor (Burgess) Corbus. In high school, he earned an Eagle Scout award and broke several basketball records while leading his team to the Michigan Class C State Championship in 1952. Fred continued his basketball career at Western Michigan University, graduating in 1956. From then on, he was a devoted Bronco fan and W Club member. After college, Fred went to work for Comstock Public Schools where he taught for more than 30 years. On June 2, 1962, he married Maxine (Braymer) Corbus, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Scott Burney, Fred (Lynne) Corbus and Jim (Kelly Markley) Corbus as well as five grandchildren, Justin and Wyatt Burney and Lindsay, Elisabeth and Hannah Corbus. Fred will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his kind, easy going nature. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Fred's life will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park St., Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions in Fred's memory may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or the charity of one's choice
