Garry Allan Briggs

Garry Allan Briggs, of Vicksburg passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023 at the age of 74. Garry was born on February 21, 1949 in Kalamazoo. He was the son of Oliver and Jessie (Evans) Briggs. Garry attended Vicksburg school up until the point he wanted to leave school and proudly serve his country in the United States Army. He later returned to finish up his schooling after the war. He served in the Army from 1966 to 1969 earning Vietnam Service medal with two Bronze Stars and National Defense Service Medal. Vietnam Campaign Medal and a brotherhood with his fellow Vietnam veterans. When he returned home, he began a life career in the construction trades. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He was also the maintenance man for Portage Terrace and Milham Meadows property communities. His family will remember Garry as a wonderful and selfless man, loving his family and being there for them, being very giving, and very patriotic.

Garry is preceded in death by his parents: Oliver and Jessie Briggs; and two brothers: Larry and Ronnie Briggs. 

He is survived by five children: Garry (Koni) Briggs, of FL; Nicolle Lewis, of Portage; Jamie Briggs, of Portage; George Briggs; and Jody Briggs, of Portage;  four grandchildren: Cody (Samantha) Briggs, Skylar Lewis, Emily Lewis, and Kaylee Polley; four great grandchildren: Olive Briggs, Finnley Briggs, Theodore Briggs, and Kyle Deutscher, Jr. He is also survived by four siblings: Henry Eugene Briggs, of Scotts; Connie Habdas, of Grand Blanc; Virgil Briggs, of Vicksburg; and Diana Martens, of Vicksburg; one sister-in-law: Evelyn Briggs, of Mendon and numerous nieces and nephews.

Garry has been cremated and will be buried with military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 2:30pm.
