LUNDQUIST, GEORGIA T.
Kalamazoo
Surrounded by the love of her family Georgia T. Lundquist died peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. Georgia was born on November 18, 1934 in Plainwell, Michigan, to her loving parents, Clare W. and Lura A. Townsend. She graduated from Plainwell High School in 1953 as the valedictorian of her class. Georgia attended Albion College for two years and then transferred to the University of Michigan, majoring in English and Secondary Education where she received her Bachelors of Arts degree with honors in 1957. Except for her first two college years at Albion, Georgia and her husband, David, attended school together from kindergarten through their graduation from the University of Michigan.
Georgia is survived by David, her husband of 55 years; their three children: Anne Lundquist and husband Allan Shackelford, Tom Lundquist and wife Diana of Kalamazoo, Sarah Leskovec and husband David of Corvallis, Oregon; and their five grandchildren, Andrew Lundquist-Wentz, Chelsea Lundquist-Wentz, Riley Lundquist, Zachary Leskovec and Alexander Leskovec. Georgia is also survived by her sister, Jane Tindall of Bishop, California, and Jane's children Kathy, David and Steven and families.
Georgia's life was filled with joys of her family; devotion to her church including teaching Sunday School and leadership to the United Methodist Women; enjoyment of music and concerts; and hours immersed in reading. A special joy for Georgia has been the years she spent on the Island at her beloved Pine Lake cottage. She was an active member of P.E.O. chapters in Kalamazoo and Dayton, Ohio. She also enjoyed the opportunity to travel with her husband on many international trips to China, Singapore, Zimbabwe and numerous European countries.
Georgia's career included several years as an elementary teacher in the Comstock Public Schools, a junior high school teacher in Durham, North Carolina, tutoring hospitalized children at the Children's Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, and as Office Administrator for the Wesley Foundation/United Methodist Campus Ministry at Western Michigan University.
During the past several years as Georgia experienced the reality of Lewy Body dementia, special appreciation is given to the physicians and others who treated and cared for her, to her devoted and faithful caregiver, Carol, and to the exceptional hospice team that made her last eight months comfortable.
A celebration of Georgia's life will be held on Friday, June 7 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park Street, Kalamazoo. An opportunity to greet Georgia's family will follow the service. Remembrances for Georgia may be given to First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
