Gerald Robert Helms

Jerry passed away at home surrounded by his family Saturday evening 1/16/16. He was born in Kalamazoo MI on October 14, 1938 the only child of Glenn and Marion (Boyle) Helms. He graduated from St Augustine Catholic School in 1956. He was a driver salesman for Schafers Bakery and Frito Lay retiring from Frito Lay in 1999. Jerry met the love of his life Beverly Helms in 1959. They married February 17, 1962. Together they raised two children Michael Glenn born in 1964 and Patricia Lynn born in 1967 both preceded him in death. In 2006 with the death of their daughter Patty they began raising their second family Patty's children Ben, Brendan and Aimee. Besides Mike and Patty Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and Mike's son Winter Forest Helms. Surviving are his wife Beverly, children Ben, Brendan, Aimee Helms and Anne (Kevin) Hanley grandchildren Jennifer and Rick Durrell. Also surviving are his special adopted daughter and son-in-law Margie and Tony Ford and grandchildren Marleigh, James, Katie and Addie. Jerry will be missed by many special friends and neighbors. Especially breakfast buddy Max Walter, lifelong friend Carl Fields Jr. close loved ones Jane Bodway. Priscilla Dibble, Carl III and Pam Fields. Jerry was so loved and blessed. Funeral services will take place Friday 1/29/16 at St. Catherine's of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W Centre St, Portage. Visitation will be 11:00 am, followed with mass at 12:00 noon and a luncheon in the church's Marian Hall. Please make contributions directly to the Helms family for care oh their children. Cards will be available in the church. Internment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date. The family wishes to thank all of the love and support they are receiving from their family, friends and neighbors.
