Goldie Margaret Smith

Goldie Smith, age 86 beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at home on January 3rd, 2020 surrounded by family and friends. She is now resting peacefully and is free of pain after an extended illness. Goldie was born in Hartford, Michigan on August 26, 1933. At age 8, she moved to Chicago, IL with her parents Steve and Margaret Stoffer. In 1961, she married the love of her life, Robert Smith in Chicago. Shortly thereafter, they moved their blended family to Kalamazoo to grow and flourish. She is now reunited with Robert who sadly, preceded her in death on August 17, 1984. Throughout her life Goldie’s kindness, friendship and “open door policy” endeared her to all whose lives she touched. Surviving are her children Edward Truitt (Jean), Cynthia Truitt-Lee (Tim), Steve Truitt, Cheryl Hovenkamp (Bert), Sandra TruittDurren (Dylan), Tina Keller and Robert Smith Jr. and the many grandchildren and great grandchildren that adored her. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial followed by an open house gathering will take place at a later date. Goldie will always remain very much alive in the memories of those who loved, respected and treasured her.
